Be careful what you stick it in!
This is from a recent for sale posting on AZ Billiards. The seller would like to sell a Joss cue with a defect. He is asked if the pin is bent and he replies: Answer – 07-16-2009, 10:40 AM

Excuse me? This cue has been damaged by the case???? Well, first of all this is a bit of a stretch to say that the case caused the pin to bend. Not to say that there aren't cases which are built so that this COULD happen. But not from just "resting" in the case. The case doesn't exert enough pressure on the cue to BEND a steel pin that is epoxied into a solid piece of wood. No way, no how, no sir.
You have to exert a LOT of force to bend a joint pin. It does not happen by "gently" putting the cue into the case. Now IF the cue is forcefully thrown into the case AND the case does not have any padding or inadequate padding, which a lot of cases INCLUDING one FAMOUS BRAND do NOT HAVE, then I can see that the pin could possibly be bent a little bit.
Facts are that there are a lot of cases which are much less protective than they appear to be. There are a lot of cases which actually do harm to the cue's finish due to the improper construction. This topic has been my soapbox rant for 18 years. But let's not attribute damage to cues by cases where there is a only a tiny sliver of a chance that the case is actually the cause.
Do yourself a favor and just buy a JB designed case and never have to worry about your cue's pin bending while in the case. :-)
