For this case we
returned to a popular style, the butterfly
case. This case is called the butterfly
because it opens lengthwise all the way to
lay out flat like a butterfly. Easy.
This style has the advantage of being
lightweight and can hold more than twice the
amount of cues as a heavier tube case of the
same size.
This type of case used to be the case of
choice for many dealers as they could carry
up to 6-8 cues securely attached to the
display boards and up to 15 cues in
individual sleeves.
This particular case is
special as well. We tooled it with a
Chinese dragon theme. When we were done
tooling it though we like the tooling so
much that we did not want to cover up the
tooling with pockets. So we borrowed an
idea from one of our customers, Jim Sward,
and put the pockets inside the case.
This is the top side. It is tooled with one
red and one green dragon in the traditional
Chinese pose for dragons.
Which meant that we
needed to be creative in design so we made
the pockets detachable so that you can put
them whichever way works best for you. And
we designed the boards to protect the cues
from the pockets and to protect the tooling
on the pockets as well. And the display
boards are also detachable so that you can
take them out as needed or switch them
around as you like.
The case is a 4x6 with one board and
8x12 with two boards. It is a fully lined with all the protective features
that come with all the cases we build. Moisture resistant super soft liner
that won't wear out, double thick foam rubber to protect against impact,
industrial strength rivets at the stress points, a heavy duty luggage-grade,
self healing zippers, and of course an elastic loop system that cradles your
cues gently but holds them securely so they cannot fall out of the case.
The leather is treated to resist soiling and liquids.
This is a view of the handle
side and the bottom. The handles are reinforced with metal inside and attached
with luggage rivets. The bottom of the case was tooled black on black to resist
stains.
It is

A better view of the bottom - two classic
dragon poses.
And when you open the case you get two fully
tooled pockets. Surprise! This will be
something cool to show folks when you open
the case.
The pockets are detachable. Put them where
you want or don't use them - your choice.
The display board holds 6 shafts easily and
securely. Everything is separated by 2cm of
dense foam rubber and velvet soft cloth.
The other side of the board holds 4 cues.
None of these cues are touching each other.
As you can see the pockets are kept from the
shafts so no harm will come to them.
The Full Monty. Everything laid out.
And the shaft side.
Here comes the dragon....
I guess the two on the front of the case
were not fighting after all.
As promised - here it is with two boards -
no pockets and holding 8 cues and 12 shafts.
That's a lot of cues in a small space.
And, as hard as it is to believe this case
zips up easily when fully loaded.
And that is the end of the pictures for the
Dragon Scales case. Thank you for looking.
